What is LGSF construction?LGSF construction refers to Light Gauge Steel Framing construction, which involves using cold-formed steel sections to create a structural framework for buildings. This method is known for its durability, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
-
What are the common applications of LGSF construction?LGSF construction is commonly used in residential buildings, commercial structures, educational facilities, healthcare buildings, and industrial projects due to its versatility, strength, and cost-effectiveness.
-
What are the environmental benefits of LGSF construction?LGSF construction is environmentally friendly as it reduces waste, promotes energy efficiency, and can be recycled. It also contributes to sustainable building practices and lower carbon footprints.
-
What is the Cost of LGSF Constructed BuildingsThe Cost of LGSF Constructions are variable according to the Type of Design, Type of Cladding Materials, Type of Insulation Materials and Type of Finishing Materials used. You can work out the costing for Extremely low cost Govt Mass Housing Projects, You can work out for Mid Segment, You can work out for Premium Segment market too, according to the building materials and technology used.
-
How durable is Cold Formed Steel?Galvanized Cold Formed Steel will not crack, shrink, splinter, creep, split, warp, swell or rot. Steel is impervious to termites and wood destroying insects.
-
How safe are Steel Buildings?Steel’s strength and non-combustible properties offer greater protection for your home and family. Choosing steel-framing can eliminate high wind, fire, and lightning damage to your home.
-
Is steel a recyclable material?Steel framing is your environmentally friendly residential framing choice. In comparison it takes 40-50 mature trees versus six recycled cars to frame a 200 square meter home. You can quickly appreciate the value of steel today and the impact on generations to come.
-
What is the environmental impact of using steel framing? The overall recycling rate of the steel industry is 86%, the highest of any industry in the world. This offers an environmentally sound alternative for framing. Recycled framing is a valuable commodity that typically does not end up in a landfill.
-
How is steel energy efficient? With Superior Insulations, Thermal Wraps, Insulated Cladding Materials, Steel framed walls are unaffected by temperature or humidity changes, more of the heating and air-conditioning cost remain inside the house, saving money spent on utility bills.
-
How well does steel framing protect against earthquakes?Positive connections and the strength of steel provide great protection against earthquake and hurricanes. A lighter structure with stronger connections results in less damage from seismic force. Steel’s high ductility makes it the best construction material for earthquake resistant design. LGSF Uses High Tensile 550MPA Steel which is best suited for Earthquake prone regions.
-
Does galvanized steel provide better rust protection for a steel frame home rather enamel coated steel?Yes, galvanized steel provides better rust protection. The reason is that zinc, through its sacrificial galvanic action, can “heal” cuts, scratches and abrasions in the steel. With the rough handling that construction products receive, as well as the cutting, drilling, shearing and fastening of members, the coating gets cut and scraped away. The galvanized coating works better than the enamel at covering areas that are cut or scratched.
-
Will steel framing affect the indoor air quality of my home? No. Steel framing is recommended by the Healthy House Institute for chemically sensitive and environmentally conscious homeowners who seek good indoor air quality. Steel frames do not need to be treated for termites and are free of resin adhesives and chemicals normally present in other construction materials.
-
Will a steel framed home look different to other homes? No. A steel frame home will look exactly like any other home. The same exterior finishes can be applied to a steel frame as those applied in standard construction.
-
Can a steel framed building be remodeled?Yes. Since steel framing enables larger spans in the design of the home, fewer interior load bearing walls are needed, making renovation very easy while allowing more flexibility in design.
-
Will a steel frame building rust? No. The use of zinc coating on the steel framing protects the steel from corrosion for the life of the structure. Also the Steel is completely covered with insulation and cladding materials.
-
Is a steel frame safe from lightning in storms?Yes. A steel frame actually allows more protection for the occupants since it provides a direct path to the ground in the event of a lightning strike. This reduces the likelihood of explosions or secondary fire. More safer than Conventional structures.
-
What can I use to clad the steel frame with? There are a range of products for cladding the exterior of the building like Fiber Cement Boards, Gypsum Boards, MGO Boards, etc. Also additional exterior claddings can be done with brick, weatherboard, etc. All with excellent thermal properties and Fire ratings.
-
What can I use for Infill Insulation?Rockwool, Glasswool, Foam Concrete, Styrofoam, etc can be used as infill insulation.
-
Can I build an LGSF Structure over an existing building built with conventional construction technology?Definitely Possible. You can build Vertical extensions with LGSF Technology over any existing building
-
What is the Limitation of LGSF Constructions? If we talk about 100% LGS Technology, then the limitation is usually upto 10 storied buildings as the maximum gauge thickness used is usually 2mm. But If we build HYBRID CONSTRUCTIONS of LGSF with combination of other technologies like RCC Frames or Heavy Gauge Hot Rolled Steel Frames, then there is no upper limit.
-
What are kit homes in LGSF construction?Kit homes in LGSF construction are prefabricated homes that utilize Light Gauge Steel Framing components. These homes are manufactured off-site in sections or panels and then assembled on the construction site, offering a quicker and more efficient building process.
